In Mould Labeling (IML)

In Mould-Labelling (IML), is one of the most efficient, and effective, decorating techniques for plastic packaging. Thus, IML is now one of the more popular methods used for injection moulded parts especially in the food packaging industry.

This process requires a combination of speed and precision. A pre-printed polypropylene (PP) label is inserted into the mould where it is bonded to the plastic melt and moulded into the shape of the end product, e.g. the shape of an ice cream tub. This method is efficient as it removes the need for a secondary decorating process. A single manufacturing process produces the complete packaging.

At Versatile Creative Plastic Sdn Bhd, our team of experts are ready and willing to help our clients to maximise the impact of their food packaging by using IML. We will propose the best IML type to match their packaging requirements, and assist in recommending the most suitable effects and finishing for the products. There are more than 60 different types of label films available in the market, for example, double sided labels, matt or high gloss labels, metallic labels, peelable labels and many more.

The Benefits of IML

Superior Print Quality

The IML labels are made from PP film, and are printed to ensure a high resolution and photo realistic image that offers visually impressive graphics. Moreover, IML labels are able to cover all the sides of any container with high resolution graphics. This benefits our clients in boosting up their brand recognition and also maximizing brand visibility by utilizing the container space.

Durable and Reliable

The fact that, labels serves as the integral part of the final product, the container’s wall has become much more durable compare to other decorating methods. In mould labels are not vulnerable to wrinkles and are also scratch resistant. Most importantly, in mould labels are the best option for refrigerated products because of its ability to resist humidity and major changes in temperature.

Shorter Production Time

IML eliminates the need for a secondary decoration process as the containers are produced and decorated in one single step. Therefore, it takes a shorter amount of time to produce a finished product. Storage of blank containers (inventory) also becomes unnecessary. The risk of contamination is much lower due to the single manufacturing process, no double handling and less exposure time when carrying out the secondary process.

Traditional decorating methods such as shrink and paper sleeves requires effort to separate the sleeve and container for recycling. IML is a more environmentally friendly option as it is so much easier to recycle. Since both IML labels and container are made of Polypropylene (PP) material, there is no need to separate the label from the container, therefore making it more convenient for users to recycle.

Flexibility in Design Changeovers

We understand that competitive business environments have forced brands to be more creative, to change their packaging designs more frequently, or even to carry more flavour options per product. With IML, the changeovers from one design to the next, or one flavour to another, is very quick as it is only the label design which changes. Combining artwork changes with the over 60 different label options gives customers a wide range of options to choose from when designing their packaging requirements.
